Pilliga Box Honey
Pilliga Box Honey is pale to medium amber in colour with aromas of dry inland forest. It has a warm mild woody flavour with hints of hazelnut. Pilliga Box Honey is moderately sweet with a warm aftertaste. Moderately quick to crystallise.
This is a rare honey and limited edition.
Pilliga Box (Eucalyptus pilligaensis) is a small to medium tree growing up to 25 metres in height. It has grey bark which it sheds in short ribbons leaving whitish patches of bark above.
Pilliga Box grows in the the Pilliga Forest (also known as the “Pilliga Scrub”) It is a 3000km square semi arid woodland and is the largest continuous remnant vegetation area in NSW, located just outside Dubbo in the central west of the state. Pilliga is an Australian aboriginal name meaning “swamp oak” and grows on the gentle slopes and plains on low-lying ground. The Pilliga is part of the traditional area of the Gamilaraay (also known as Gamilaroi or Gomeroi) people.
