Bloodwood Honey has a clean bush aroma and flavours similar to golden syrup and caramel. Its colour is pale to medium amber and it has a mild sweetness with little aftertaste. It is very slow to crystallise but if crystals do form they are medium sizes and easy to spread.
Botanical Information
Although they only flower every two to three years, Bloodwoods yield good pollen and nectar, making them a favourite for bees and beekeepers.
Bloodwood trees are characterised by their scaly flaky bark which divides into squarish or rectangular patterns which is a distinguishing feature used by beekeepers to identify this tree. Bloodwoods are named after their bark which is often blotched with blood like stains.
Geographical Information
Bloodwoods grow along the eastern seaboard of Australia preferring flat-topped ridges and steep slopes.
