To pay homage to Australia’s native flora we invited Beechworth’s florist, Gina Kromar to share her tips on how to bring a little piece of bee-loving nature to the table this Christmas.
Honeybees collect their nectar from flowering plants and the blossoms of Australian Eucalypts are a favourite food source for bees. To pay homage to Australia’s native flora we invited Beechworth’s florist, Gina Kromar to share her tips on how to bring a little piece of bee-loving nature to the table this Christmas.
#1 INVITE NATURE
It’s not hard to find inspiration for your festive table by just taking a walk around your garden. Look to ground. Fallen pine cones, gum nuts and seed pods, and even more overlooked textures like leaves, sticks and bark will bring interesting dimensions to the table. There’s still room for tinsel and baubles, as they can add those little festive flourishes amongst your natural fibres.
#2 ADD TOUCHES OF BLUE
One way to complement native tones and natural shapes is by introducing the colour blue. Red, green and gold tend to dominate when it comes to Christmas decorations, but including tones like midnight blue or aquamarine will help create a uniquely Australian Christmas setting.
We’ve added a touch of blue with our Beechworth Honey Mini Trio Gift Pack, an alternative to the traditional Christmas bon bon.
#3 LET THERE BE LIGHT
Introduce that festive twinkle by arranging a handful of different shaped candles randomly amongst the decorations. White introduces contrast to the darker hues. You could opt for fairy lights, strewn around the natural arrangements, letting the light glow through the foliage.
#4 THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Break up the earthy, natural items by introducing patterns and textured fabrics. Think table runners or napkins with strong patterns – don’t be afraid of stripes and dots! And don’t forget to reserve that something special for the place setting, creating a personal touch for each guest.
#5 SWEET SOMETHINGS FOR YOUR TABLE
Add a sweet drizzle to your festive table setting with a gift of honey for your guests. Tie a name tag to honey jars for place settings. Keep it simple, natural and native and pass on the love to family and friends.
Featured on our table above: Beechworth Ho Ho Christmas Honey Jars, Wooden Honey Drizzler and individual jars taken from our Beechworth Honey Mini Trio Gift Pack.
